Sand Sharks Split Doubleheader, Season Series With Barons

Senior OF Dom Hayes drove in six runs in the doubleheader
Dom Hayes drove in six runs in the doubleheader, including four in USCB's 11-4 win in the opening game, but the Sand Sharks couldn't generate enough offense in the second game, losing 4-2 and settling for a split of the six-game season series with Brewton-Parker (Ga.).

Hayes blasted a two-run home run and added a two-run single, and Erik Armstrong hit a homer and drove in three runs to help the No. 22 Sand Sharks (28-14) claw back from a 3-0 lead in the opener.

After allowing three runs in the first inning, junior right-hander Andrew Barrineau (3-0) settled in and shut out the Barons for the next three innings, and freshman Junior Delatorre allowed only one unearned run over three innings for his first save.

Hayes hit a two-run triple in the fourth inning of the second game to tie it at 2, but the Barons scored an unearned run against Alex Graham (4-3) to take the lead and tacked on an insurance run in the seventh.

USCB was unable to rally against Barons ace Daniel Jones, who pitched 3 1-3 scoreless innings of relief for the win.

The Sand Sharks travel to Lake Wales, Fla., this weekend for a three-game Sun Conference series against Warner.

USCB broke into the NAIA Top 25 for the first time this season Monday, coming in at No. 22 after taking two of three from then-No. 4 Embry-Riddle over the weekend. The Eagles fell to No. 6.
