HARDEEVILLE, S.C. - The University of South Carolina Beaufort baseball team dropped two games to seventh-ranked Embry-Riddle on Saturday, as the Eagles won 6-3 and 5-1 to finish a three-game sweep of the Sun Conference series. 

After being shut out in Friday's opener, the 21st-ranked Sand Sharks continued to have difficulty getting the offense going against Embry-Riddle's strong pitching staff. USCB managed only five hits in a 6-3 loss in Saturday's first game and came up with just seven hits in a 5-1 loss in the finale. 

The Sand Sharks (3-7, 1-5 TSC) fell behind early in the opener, as Embry-Riddle scored two unearned runs in the first inning and added another run in the second. But USCB clawed back into with a pair of unearned runs in the third, as J.J. Crespo drove in a run with a groundout and Blake Cilwick delivered an RBI single. 

Embry-Riddle extended the lead to 4-2 on Matt Jacobs' RBI single in the fifth, but the Sand Sharks made some noise in the eighth. Kyle Thompson's RBI single pulled USCB within 4-3, but Eric Green came on in relief to strand the tying run at third, and the Eagles tacked on two insurance runs in the ninth.

Right-hander Chad Modomo (2-0) held USCB to three runs (one earned) over 7 1/3 innings to earn the win, and Green recorded the final five outs for his second save. 

USCB right-hander Hunter Englehart (1-2) took the loss but pitched well after the rocky start, allowing four runs (two earned) on eight hits over eight innings. 

Jacobs hurt the Sand Sharks again in the finale, driving in three runs as Embry-Riddle built a 5-0 lead through five innings. 

USCB's bullpen kept it there, as Bryce Hines pitched two scoreless innings in his Sand Sharks debut and Caleb Daniels tossed two scoreless frames in his first action of the season, but the Sand Sharks couldn't muster a rally.

Jon Andrews broke up the shutout with an RBI single in the ninth and finished the game 3-for-4, but the Sand Sharks didn't get any closer. 

Left-hander Stetson Nelson struck out eight and allowed one run on six hits over 8 1/3 innings for the win, and Kyle McCullough (0-1) took the loss, allowing five runs on nine hits over five innings. 

USCB is back home Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader against Brewton-Parker starting at 1 p.m.
