Brewton-Parker (6-2) at No. 21 USCB (3-7)

The University of South Carolina Beaufort baseball team returns home for a non-conference doubleheader against Brewton-Parker Colllege on Wednesday. The games originally were scheduled for Tuesday but were postponed because of rain. The 21st-ranked Sand Sharks are looking to bounce back after being swept in a three-game series by No. 7 Embry-Riddle over the weekend. It's the continuation of a long homestand for USCB, which hosts Fisher College for doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday, welcomes Georgia Gwinnett for a three-game series March 1-2 and hosts Voorhees College for a doubleheader March 5.

ABOUT BREWTON-PARKER

The Barons are a perennial Top 25 NAIA program and a regular contender in the difficult Southern States Athletic Conference. Brewton-Parker is off to a strong start to the season, having taken two of three from Southeastern (Fla.) and Mid-Continent (Ky.) and sweeping a doubleheader from Edward Waters (Fla.). Both of the Barons' losses have come by one run. They rank in the top 25 in the NAIA in several offensive categories, including runs per game (22nd, 6.75) and rank fourth in the nation in team ERA (1.33).

NOTES

• USCB is 94-36 all-time at Richard Gray Sports Complex. The Sand Sharks split a four-game series with Shawnee State (Ohio) in their first home contests of the 2013 season and were swept in three games last weekend against Embry-Riddle. 

• The Sand Sharks rank 14th nationally in triples per game (0.4), as junior OF Blake Cilwick, senior DH Terry McClinton, junior 2B Jon Andrews and freshman 3B Brandon Joyce all have one three-bagger. 

• Junior 1B Erik Armstrong (7) needs two home runs to tie Brandon Collins for USCB's career lead.
