USCB Baseball Takes Third Game At Webber For First Sun Conference Win

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BABSON PARK, Fla. — The University of South Carolina Beaufort baseball team used an 11-run inning to roll to a mercy-rule win and salvage the final game of a three-game series to open Sun Conference play Saturday at Webber International.

After dropping a 2-1 decision in a pitchers' duel Friday night, the Sand Sharks lost Saturday's opener 10-2 before rebounding for a 16-5 victory in the final game of the series.

USCB (3-4, 1-2 TSC) took advantage of six Warriors errors and racked up a season-high 11 hits in the nightcap, as senior Terry McClinton, freshman Brandon Joyce and senior Mitchell Johnson each collected two hits and two RBIs. Sophomore Ashly Morris added a hit and three RBIs, and juniors Erik Armstrong and Blake Cilwick each drove in two runs.

Senior Andrew Barrineau (1-0) pitched three innings out of the bullpen for the win, allowing two runs on three hits in relief of sophomore Junior Delatorre. Delatorre gave up three runs on six hits over four innings with two strikeouts and three walks.

The Sand Sharks travel to Voorhees College for a doubleheader at noon Tuesday, then return home to face Embry-Riddle in a three-game Sun Conference series over the weekend. The opener against the Eagles is set for 2 p.m. Friday, and the series concludes with a doubleheader starting at noon Saturday.
