Sand Shark Baseball Splits Doubleheader At Brewton-Parker

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. — The University of South Carolina Beaufort baseball team salvaged a doubleheader split at Brewton-Parker on Tuesday to claim the season series from the Barons.

After dropping a tough 2-1 decision in the first game, the Sand Sharks rebounded with a 6-1 victory in the nightcap to claim three of four in the season series. USCB swept a pair of one-run games against the Barons on Feb. 20 in Hardeeville.

The Sand Sharks (13-13) were unable to dig out of an early hole in the opener, as Brewton-Parker scored three runs in the first against starter Junior Delatorre

USCB scored single runs in the second and fourth, and Kutler Lane pitched three scoreless innings of relief to keep the Sand Sharks in it, but they couldn't plate the tying run.

USCB's pitching was dominant in the second game, as five pitchers — Hunter Englehart, Ben Sauls, C.J. Kelly, Caleb Daniels and Kyle McCullough — combined for a one-hitter.

The Sand Sharks scored three runs in the first and three more in the seventh, getting key hits from Terry McClinton, Erik Armstrong, Jon Andrews and Denzel Campbell.

USCB is back on the road this weekend for a three-game Sun Conference series against Southeastern in Lakeland, Fla. The first game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday with a doubleheader starting at noon Saturday.
