Sand Shark Baseball Sweeps Florida Memorial To Claim Sun Conference Series

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The University of South Carolina Beaufort baseball team picked up its first series win in Sun Conference play this season by sweeping a doubleheader at Florida Memorial on Saturday, winning 17-2 and 5-2 to take two of three in the weekend series.

The Sand Sharks (10-11, 3-6 TSC) took out their frustrations from a tough loss in Friday's series opener by routing the Lions in the first game. After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, USCB scored seven runs over the second through fourth innings and breaking it open with a nine-run sixth.

Junior outfielder Blake Cilwick paced USCB's offense, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and five RBIs, and freshman outfielder J.J. Crespo and freshman catcher Nick Payne each drove in two runs. Junior designated hitter Terry McClinton went 2-for-2 and scored four runs.

Junior right-hander Hunter Englehart didn't need much support, as he held Florida Memorial to two runs on seven hits in a seven-inning complete game.

The strong pitching continued in the finale for USCB, as sophomore right-hander Junior Delatorre limited the Lions to two runs — one earned — on three hits over six innings for the win. Freshman right-hander Caleb Daniels pitched two scoreless innings and senior right-hander Andrew Barrineau worked a scoreless ninth for the save.

Sophomore shortstop Ashly Morris broke a 2-2 tie with a two-run double in the sixth, and the Sand Sharks added an insurance run later in the inning on Cilwick's RBI single.

The Sand Sharks continue Sun Conference play next weekend at Thomas University. The series opener is set for 4 p.m. Friday with a doubleheader starting at noon Saturday.
