JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The University of South Carolina Beaufort baseball team had a big day with the bats Tuesday, racking up 23 hits in a doubleheader sweep at Edward Waters.
The Sand Sharks notched 11 hits in a 7-3 win in the opener and smacked 12 hits in an 11-2 victory in the nightcap. Senior Jon Andrews was the star at the plate in the first game, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs including a go-ahead two-run double in the third inning. JJ Crespo also had three hits while scoring a run and driving in another.
Junior right-hander Christian Pfaff (3-1) gave up a pair of home runs in the first inning but allowed only one hit the rest of the way. He struck out seven and walked two in a seven-inning complete game.
Senior Erik Armstrong had a huge game at the plate in the finale, going 2-for-2 with a home run — his USCB career-record 11th — and four RBIs. Matt Kianka was 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs and Zack Holt smacked a two-run double.
Senior left-hander Shane Murli (1-0) pitched two scoreless frames for the win. CJ Kelly, Ben Sauls, Kutler Lane and Jason Boulais each worked one scoreless inning in relief.
USCB (9-5) remains on the road this weekend, traveling to Georgia Gwinnett for a three-game series. The first game is set for 7 p.m. Friday, and the teams will play a doubleheader starting at noon Saturday.
