MOUNT VERNON, Ga. — The University of South Carolina Beaufort baseball team dropped a pair of games on the road Tuesday, falling 2-1 in nine innings and 6-2 at Brewton-Parker.
The Sand Sharks (9-10) managed only four hits in the opener against Brewton-Parker's Mike Venturelli, but USCB also got strong pitching from starter Christian Pfaff and relievers Ben Sauls and Gage Roth to stay in it.
The Barons took a 1-0 lead on Eddie Peyton's solo homer in the first, and that's where it stayed until Jon Andrews drove in the tying run for USCB in the seventh to force extra innings. Clay Fenwick's RBI double with two outs in the ninth plated the winning run.
Brewton-Parker also struck first in the second game, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. USCB answered in the top of the fourth with RBIs from Ryan Walker and Brandon Joyce to pull even, but the Barons pushed across three more in the bottom of the inning and one in the sixth while shutting out the Sand Sharks the rest of the way.
JJ Crespo and Matt Kianka each had two hits for USCB.
The Sand Sharks return home this weekend for a three-game Sun Conference series against Florida Memorial. The set is scheduled to begin with a doubleheader at noon Friday and conclude with a single game at noon Saturday.
