HARDEEVILLE — The University of South Carolina Beaufort baseball team picked up a big Sun Conference victory and snapped a five-game losing streak with a 7-1 win over Florida Memorial on Saturday at Richard Gray Sports Complex.
Jon Andrews had two hits and three RBIs and Junior Delatorre tossed a complete game as the Sand Sharks (10-10, 3-4 TSC) improved to 7-0 at home against the Lions and 14-3 overall in the series.
Delatorre (3-1) allowed five hits and three walks over nine strong innings, giving up one run and lowering his ERA to 1.62. He didn't allow a hit until Chris Perez's infield single in the fourth, and his defense got him out of a jam with an inning-ending double play in the fifth.
Florida Memorial starter Mike Hardison matched zeroes with Delatorre until the fourth, when Brandon Joyce singled home Matt Kianka and Andrews greeted reliever Eduardo Delgado with a two-run single to make it 3-0.
Carlos Senluis singled home a run in the fifth to cut it to 3-1, but USCB scored four big insurance runs in the eighth. Andrews knocked in a run with a fielder's choice and another scored on a wild relay throw from second. JJ Crespo singled home Andrews and a balk forced home Denzel Campbell to cap the scoring.
The series wraps up with a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. Sunday.
