#SandSharkBaseball Claims Two Close Wins vs. Edward Waters

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

HARDEEVILLE — The University of South Carolina Beaufort baseball team put together sixth-inning rallies to claim a pair of victories over visiting Edward Waters on Tuesday at Richard Gray Sports Complex.

The Sand Sharks took advantage of a Tiger error to plate the winning run in a 7-6 victory in the opener and erupted for a four-run sixth to win the finale 9-7. USCB has won 14 of 15 all-time meetings with Edward Waters, including a sweep of the four-game series this season.

Edward Waters rallied from 4-0 and 6-4 deficits in the first game but could never take the lead. The Sand Sharks pushed across the go-ahead run in the sixth, when Jon Andrews led off with a single and pinch runner Mitchell Stewart moved up on a Korey Ahrens sacrifice bunt and scored from second on shortstop Juan Bracamonte's error.

Ben Sauls (1-0) earned the win in relief, pitching 4 2/3 innings and allowing two runs on five hits. Ryan Walker had two hits and two RBIs and Matt Kianka added two hits to pace the offense.

USCB trailed 6-5 going to the bottom of the sixth in the second game, but the Sand Sharks sent 10 batters to the plate in the four-run frame. Blake Cilwick's three-run double down the left-field line was the big blow, and Walker followed with an RBI single to add some insurance.

Walker went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, Cilwick was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and four runs scored and JJ Crespo went 3-for-4.

Jason Boulais (1-0) was the last of five USCB pitchers and picked up the win, allowing three runs — two earned — on three hits over two innings.

The Sand Sharks host Northwood (Fla.) for a three-game Sun Conference series this weekend. The teams will play a doubleheader starting at noon Friday and a single game at noon Saturday. USCB will honor its seniors in a ceremony before Saturday's game.
