Box Score 2 MOUNT VERNON, Ga. — The University of South Carolina Beaufort baseball team stayed perfect on the road in 2015, sweeping a doubleheader Tuesday at Brewton-Parker as Bryan Lewallyn surpassed Rick Sofield as USCB's winningest head coach with his 102nd and 103rd victories.
The Sand Sharks won the opener 11-7 before taking the nightcap 8-5 to improve to 5-0 on the road and run their winning streak to five games.Â
Ashly Morris went 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBIs in the first game, hitting a two-run shot in the first and a go-ahead blast leading off the seventh. He also had a two-run single in the second as USCB built a 4-1 lead.
Zack Saldivar went 2-for-3 and had a two-run single in the fourth to make it 6-1 before the Barons scored twice in the fifth and tied it on Mike Parker's three-run homer in the sixth. Morris answered with his shot leading off the seventh to begin a four-run rally.Â
Blake Drew (3-2) gave up the tying homer in the sixth but came back with a scoreless seventh for the win.Â
Saldivar led the offense in the finale, going 3-for-5 with a two-run single that put USCB ahead during a five-run seventh inning. Zack Holt added two hits and an RBI, Johnny Cole was 2-for-3 and Chaztin Venezia drove in two runs.Â
The Barons scored five runs in the second before three USCB relievers combined to shut them out the rest of the way. Willis Dobison pitched 1 2/3 innings, Jason Boulais (1-0) retired the only batter he faced to earn the win and Drew struck out two in a perfect seventh for his fifth save — tying USCB's single-season record.Â
The Sand Sharks (16-4) are back on the road this weekend, traveling to Thomas for a three-game Sun Conference series on Friday and Saturday.
