WOMEN'S 5K RESULTS
BLUFFTON, S.C. - Hosting the 14th annual Sand Shark Invitational, the USCB men's and women's cross country teams competed in the meet, which was held on USCB's campus on Saturday night.
HIGHLIGHTS
Men's Highlights
Tewodros Eckstein had the quickest time for the Sand Sharks in the 8k event. The junior from Mount Pleasant, S.C. posted a time of 26:54.79, as he averaged 5:24.9 per mile. Eckstein finished in 13th place in the 62-person field.
Freshman Jay King continued his success on the course, as the distance runner posted a 29:31.11. He finished in 32nd place and averaged 5:56.6 per mile.
Fellow classmate Aiden Anderson was right on King's heel, as Anderson finished in 36th place. In his first event of the year, he clocked a 31:00.16.
Garrett Elkins and Christian Austin also competed in the 14th annual Sand Shark Invitational. Elkins finished in 49th place, and Austin placed 50th.
Women's Highlights
Jenitza Trinidad had the best overall finish (13th place) for either Sand Shark squad, as the junior ran a 20:27.16 in the 5k event. She averaged just over six-and-a-half minutes per mile.
Madison Mury Riley was very impressive in the annual meet. The senior from Springfield, N.J. finished in 17th place and posted a 21:15.50 mark.
Riley Edwards rounded out the top 25 finishes for USCB (24th place) on Saturday. The sophomore posted a 22:05.31 and edged the 25th-place finisher by two seconds.
Sarahna Herndon and Katarina Schwebach also ran in the annual meet. Herndon posted a 23:25.18 en route to her 29th-place finish, and Schwebach finished 38th overall.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Sand Sharks will host its second and final meet of the 2020 season on Saturday, Oct. 24, as they host the NAIA Southern States Challenge. The start times are the same as the Sand Shark Invitational - men's 8k race at 4:30 p.m. and the women's 5k race at 5:15 p.m.
