WINGATE, NORTH CAROLINA. – The University of South Carolina Beaufort women's cross country team made program history on Saturday morning, competing in its first-ever NCAA Regional Meet in Wingate, North Carolina. The Sand Sharks had three runners represent the team in the 6K race.
Host Wingate claimed the overall team title, while Madison Clay of Catawba captured the individual championship.
Chandler Riley led the way for USC Beaufort, finishing the 6K course with a time of 27:25.76, placing 141st overall.
Next to cross the line for the Sand Sharks was Avrie Farrington, who clocked a 28:15.42 to place 155th overall.
Sofia Mejia rounded out the trio of runners for USCB, finishing in 29:25.69 to close out the team's effort in the regional.
The meet also marked the Sand Sharks' first 6K race of the season and their debut appearance at the NCAA Division II Regional level a milestone for the program.
