BLUFFTON, SOUTH CAROLINA – The Sand Shark Women's Cross Country team hosted the 18th Annual Sand Shark Invitational on Saturday morning at Sergeant Jasper Park, competing alongside 17 other programs. The Sand Sharks placed eighth overall, with Avrie Farrington leading the team with a 48th-place finish.
SCAD Savannah's Talia Sullivan claimed the individual title in the 5K race, while Georgia Southern earned the top spot in the team standings.
Farrington paced the Sand Sharks, finishing 48th with a time of 20:55.6, a new season-best for her in the 5K.
Grace Napoli was the second Sand Shark to cross the line, placing 63rd with a time of 21:40.7, marking her personal best for the season.
Chandler Riley followed closely in 65th place, posting a time of 21:48.4, which also set a new season best for her, previously set at the Chanticleer Challenge.
Sofia Mejia continued the trend of personal records, clocking in at 22:03.6—her fastest 5K time of both the season and her collegiate career.
Teresa Shepard rounded out the scoring for the Sand Sharks, finishing 88th with a personal-best time of 24:18.9.
The Sand Sharks will return to action on October 25 at the Peach Belt Conference Championship.
