BLUFFTON, S.C. - Three USCB athletic teams will be in action this week, as USCB women's golf will kick off the week at the Oyster Shuck Match Play tournament in Charleston, S.C.
Women's Golf - at Oyster Shuck Match Play
The women's golf team will return to the links for its third tournament of the spring schedule from Feb. 24-25. The Sand Sharks will travel to Charleston, S.C. to compete in the Oyster Shuck Match Play tournament, which is hosted by NCAA Division I and Southern Conference member The Citadel.
The Sand Sharks will open the match play tournament by facing NCAA Division I and Sun Belt member Appalachian State on Feb. 24.
In USCB's last two meets, USCB was led by senior Blanca Porta. The Spain native won the Coastal Georgia Winter Invitational, as she shot a 2-over 146 (77-69). She also paced the Sand Sharks in a dual match versus SCAD on Feb. 14. Porta collected a 6-over 78, which placed her fourth overall.Â
Baseball - Doubleheader at Columbia International and Three-Game Series versus Toccoa Falls
USCB baseball will play its first road contest of the season, as it will travel to Columbia International on Feb. 26. The two clubs will play a doubleheader in Columbia, S.C. beginning at noon.
The Sand Sharks will then conclude the week with a three-game set versus NCCAA Toccoa Falls from Feb. 28-29. The series will open on Friday, Feb. 28 with a nine-inning contest at 5 p.m. at Richard Gray. The set will then conclude with two, 7-inning games beginning at noon in Hardeeville, S.C.
CIU welcomes USCB to Columbia with a 6-9 overall mark, including a 1-0 record at home. Since playing USCB on Feb. 11, the Rams have played seven games against Toccoa Falls, Georgia Gwinnett, USC Salkehatchie and Tennessee Wesleyan. The Rams' offense is led by Joshua Hernandez, as he has started in 14 of the 15 games this year. He has a team-best .333 batting average and has connected with five extra-base hits to go along with 12 RBIs.Â
Justin Parish is a key starting pitcher for CIU, as he has started four games on the hill. He has a 1.54 ERA in 23.1 innings and 36 strikeouts. A reliever to keep an eye on is Trent Polly, as he has appeared in seven games and totes a 3.31 ERA.Â
Toccoa Falls will travel to Hardeeville with a 3-6 overall record and a 1-5 mark from games away from Toccoa Falls, Ga. The Eagles will play one tuneup match before traveling to the Lowcountry, as they travel to Cochran, Ga. to face Middle Georgia State on Feb. 25.
TFC's offense is led by Clifton Dempsey, who has a .429 batting average in nine starts. He has 15 hits to go along with a team-leading 10 runs scored. Landon McLane is a power threat for the Eagles, as he has two home runs and a pair of doubles.
On the mound, the Eagles have only used nine pitchers this year. As a team, Toccoa Falls has a 8.82 ERA and has allowed opponents to hit .333. They have walked 38 batters in nine games and have allowed 33 extra-base knocks.Â

Softball - Doubleheader Versus Brewton-Parker
The Sand Shark softball team will return to the friendly confines of Richard Gray Stadium on Friday, Feb. 28, as it welcomes Brewton-Parker to the Lowcountry for a non-conference doubleheader.Â
USCB returns after a tough RU Invite, where it went 2-4 at the three-day tournament in Waleska, Ga. USCB started the tournament red hot, as it run-ruled Freed-Hardeman, 8-0, and downed Reinhardt, 6-0.
After playing six games in three days, Taylor Boykin now leads the USCB offense in batting average with a .433 clip. Right behind her is Emily Martin, as the senior has a .354 batting average. Martin has a team-best eight RBIs, as she collected the Sand Sharks' first home run of the 2020 season.Â
BPC is 6-4 on the year and is fresh off a doubleheader sweep of Edward Waters College at home, 3-2 and 11-3. Highlighting the Barons' season was defeating Coastal Georgia, 3-1, earlier this month on the road.
Kaylee Jones is pacing the Baron offense, as she has a .448 batting average in 10 starts. Morgan Parris and Sadie Rusteika are worth keeping an eye on, as they have a .364 and .351 batting average, respectively.Â
In the circle, Rebecca Eddins is the key pitcher for Brewton-Parker, as she has appeared in five games, five starts, and has three complete games. She has twirled 30.1 innings and has struck out 19 batters.Â
