RESULTS
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Behind three personal bests, the USCB men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Royals Cross Country Challenge on Friday at McAlpine Creek Park.
MEN'S RESULTS
Just like last week, Jacob Mitchell again paced the men's squad in its cross country competition. The freshman finished 44th out of 182 runners in the 8k Royals Cross Country Challenge. He posted a 27:14.6, which is his second-fastest time at USCB.
Jay King just finished inside the top 100, 99th, with a time of 29:15.6. His time was also a career-best mark, as he shaved off just over 15 seconds from his previous best.
Travis Patten rounded out the times for USCB. He clocked a 30:38.3, which placed him 120th overall. The mark also set a new personal mark for the rookie.
WOMEN'S RESULTS
In her second meet of 2021, Jenitza Trinidad turned heads with a 33rd place finish out of 175 runners. The senior from Puerto Rico posted a 20:49.8, which was just five seconds away from moving into the top 30.
Cydney Stevenson and Riley Edwards finished near one another at 67th and 69th, respectively. The rookie, Stevenson, clocked a 21:37.2, and Edwards etched a 21:40.2.
Sarahna Herndon rounded out the results for the Sand Sharks in 89th place. The senior totaled a 22:15.4 mark - a new personal best.
WHAT'S NEXT?
After traveling to three road meets to start the season, the Sand Sharks will compete in their annual home meets - Sand Shark Invitational and the NAIA Southern States Challenge. The first meet - the 15th annual Sand Shark Invitational - will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16.
