HOW GAME ONE HAPPENED
The Sand Sharks started the scoring early and often, as they plated five runs in the first two innings. Meyer collected a RBI double in the first inning, while Searles recorded a RBI off a bases-loaded walk. In the second frame, Castro uncorked on a three-run home run to push the lead to five, 5-0. The homer marks the first long ball for the upperclassman since April 16 versus Ave Maria.
The Barons quickly answered in the second, third and fourth innings, as they took their first lead of the day - 9-5.Â
After two 1-2-3 frames in the fifth and sixth, USCB had one more chance to comeback, as it did just that with a six-spot in the top of the seventh. Russ and Alexander Humphrey started the rally with back-to-back singles. After an out, Milhan connected with a single to score Russ. Seales forced the bases loaded with a walk, and McKown made it hurt with a pinch-hit, RBI single. To cap off the miraculous come-from-behind win, Sellers unleashed a grand slam to take the two-run lead, 11-9. It was the first grand slam for USCB in 2021.Â
Huneck stayed out to pitch the seventh, and he allowed just one walk. However, he pitched around the free pass to secure the win for the Sand Sharks.
INSIDE THE GAME TWO BOX SCORE
Meyer - 3-for-4, home run, three RBIs, two runs
Castro - 3-for-4, double
Marino Sorbara - 1-for-2, home run, one RBI, two runs
Tavaris Terrell - 2-for-4, one RBI
Cam Mathis - three innings, win, no runs, no hits, no walks, four strikeouts
Eamonn Collins - one inning, two hits, no runs, one walk, three strikeoutsÂ
HOW GAME TWO HAPPENED
Unlike game one, USCB couldn't come up with the big hit early. The Sand Sharks tallied four hits in the first three innings, but all four Sand Sharks were left stranded.Â
BPC took advantage with a four-run fourth inning, which gave it its first lead of the game - 4-0.Â
Without fooling around, USCB put up a crooked number - six runs - to break the shutout and garner its first lead of the contest in the fifth. Sorbara led off the inning with his first home run as a Sand Shark. After a Sellers' walk, Meyer joined in on the action with a two-run blast of his own. Castro stroked an infield single, and Milhan followed with a single of his own. To make the bases loaded, Brevon Harper walked. Going station to station, Terrell poked a run-scoring single, and Milhan touched home on a BPC wild pitch. To cap off the six-run frame, Humphrey connected with a sacrifice fly to make the game 6-4.Â
The Sand Sharks carried their momentum to the sixth and seventh innings, as they combined for three more runs to take the 9-4 win.Â
