MIAMI, Fla. - Following their first collegiate cross country meet, freshmen Jacob Mitchell and Cydney Stevenson were named the Sun Conference Runners of the Week for their performances at the Wingate Bulldog Stampede on Saturday.
Both Sand Sharks paced USCB in their respective events, as the men competed in the 8k and the women raced in the 6k.
A graduate of South Effingham High School, Mitchell led USCB in his first collegiate event. He finished 22nd overall with a 27:32.5 time, which was an average of 5:32.5 minutes per mile. He was also just 0.4 seconds away from moving into the top 20. Â
Benson was one of two female Sand Sharks to run in the 6k race, as she finished with a 28:03.0 time in her college debut. Overall, Stevenson finish 31st out of 60 runners.Â
Mitchell, Stevenson and both cross country teams will take 13 days off to rest and recover for the Queen City Invite on Sept. 24 in Charlotte, N.C.
