BLUFFTON, S.C. - The Continental Athletic Conference announced its Runners of the Week on Monday, Oct. 24, and sophomore distance runners Jacob Mitchell and Cydney Stevenson swept the weekly honors after both claimed first-place recognition at the 16th Annual Sand Shark Invitational on Saturday morning.
Running in the 8k portion of the Sand Shark Invitational, Mitchell collected first-place recognition with a new personal record. The sophomore from Rincon, Ga. posted a 25:45.1 time, which was nearly a minute-and-a-half faster than the runner-up. The new personal record was also nearly 30 seconds faster than his previous best time.
Stevenson, who ran in the 5k race at the Sand Shark Invitational, also took home the gold medal with her new personal best time. The Travelers Rest, S.C. native clocked a 20:02.8 mark, which was nearly 30 seconds quicker than the runner-up. She shattered her previous-best time of 21:07.0, which she earned over a year ago at the Queen City Invite.
Mitchell, Stevenson and the rest of the men's and women's cross country teams will rest and prepare for their postseason meet - the Continental Athletic Conference Championships - which will run on Nov. 4 in Lakeland, Fla.
