BROOKINGS, S.D. - At the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Nationals on Friday, Maisonne Jones was named a NAIA All-American in the long jump, while Shamar Deacon advanced to the finals inside the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex. 

Highlights

As the lone female Sand Shark at the NAIA Nationals, Jones left a strong impression, as she earned NAIA All-American honors in the women's long jump. Out of 24 athletes, the junior made a leap of 5.67m on her first attempt of six, which slotted her in eighth place in the field. The leap was 0.08m off from matching a personal best that she set earlier this season at Columbia International.

Deacon was outstanding in the men's 800m, as he finished in fifth place out of 17 sprinters. The mark of 1:54.55 was enough to give him a berth into the finals, which will take place on Saturday inside the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex. 

Senior Kadari Mitchell ran in two preliminary races on Friday - the men's 60m and the 200m. In the 60m prelims, Mitchell finished in 19th place out of 35 sprinters with a mark of 6.90. That time was just 0.05 seconds off from matching a personal best, which he set last month at the Sun Conference Championships. In the 200m, the Savannah, Ga. native finished in 12th. Mitchell clocked a time of 21.56 and was just 0.09 seconds off from moving into the top 10. The mark, however, bested his previous-best time by 0.04 seconds. 

Deacon also ran in the men's 400m, and he finished in 25th place. 

What's Next?

Deacon will be the only Sand Shark to compete on the final day of the NAIA National Championships, as he will look to move up in the men's 800m. The finals of the race will begin at 3:15 p.m. eastern.
