Jones, Mitchell Break Two Indoor Schools Records at the JDL DMR Invitational

RESULTS

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The USCB men's and women's track and field teams saw two records fall at the JDL DMR, as senior Maisonne Jones (long jump) and sophomore Jacob Mitchell (3000m) broke two USCB indoor track and field school records on Saturday.

Field Highlights

Jones was the first Sand Shark to see the school indoor record be broken, as the senior shattered her own record in the women's long jump. She finished first out of 14 jumpers with a mark of 5.81m. The second-place finisher was 0.36m behind the Sand Shark. Her previous-best indoor mark of 5.75m (previous school record too) was recorded at the Rams Winter Challenge in Dec. 2021.

Jordan Rivers had an impressive showing in the men's long jump, as he placed seventh out of 19 jumpers. He made a jump of 5.93m, which is the second-longest mark this year for the freshman. He was just 0.19m from moving into the top-5.

In the women's shot put, USCB sent out three throwers. Allayah Bryan led the way with a throw of 9.40m to finish 13th. Sophia Stalford and Algeria Scott also competed and made throws of 8.05m and 7.57m, respectively.

De'Andra Brown took home a bronze medal in the women's triple jump. The freshman hit a mark of 10.64m, which slotted her in third out of six athletes.

Bryan had a respectable result in the women's weight throw, as she finished 10th out of 20 athletes. She made a heave of 11.14m.

Track Highlights

Headlining the track results was the second USCB indoor school record being broken. This time, Mitchell broke into the school record book in the men's 3000m. The sophomore broke the USCB record that has been standing since the 2014 season. Mitchell clocked a 8:52.32, which shattered the school record by over 12 seconds. Overall, Mitchell placed ninth out of 25 athletes, with 11 of the athletes being DI runners.

Steven Nesbitt posted a strong mark in the men's 60m prelims. The Sand Shark finished 12th out of 34 with a time of 7.24. He was just 0.04 seconds from cracking the top-10. Michael Johnson also ran, as he finished 24th at 7.53.

In the women's 200m, De'Andra Brown just missed on a top-10 finish, as she placed 11th at 28.77. She was just under five seconds away from moving into that threshold.

The Sand Sharks sent out four sprinters to compete in the men's 200m. Ramon White led the foursome at 23rd with a mark of 24.49. Johnson finished one spot behind him, while Rivers slotted in 28th at 24.91. Marquis Sparks rounded out the times at 25.71.

In one of the largest fields of the day, Jay King finished in the top half in the men's 800m (23rd out of 50). He clocked a time of 2:07.18. Eli Smith and Travis Patten also ran for USCB, as they posted times of 2:18.54 and 2:25.59, respectively.
