MIAMI, Fla. - The Sun Conference announced its postseason All-Conference awards on Wednesday, and two USCB baseball players - Leandy Castro (First Team) and Kyran Russ (Second Team) - garnered All-Conference recognition.
As the lone Sand Shark representative on the First Team, Castro led the team in several offensive categories - batting average (.371), hits (66), doubles (17) and home runs (11). He also poured in 16 walks, 15 stolen bases and 43 runs scored. In Sun Conference contests, Castro started in 21 games and posted a .345 batting average. He totaled 29 hits to go along with nine doubles and six homers. He slugged .667 and collected a .440 on-base percentage in league games. This also marks the second straight season Castro has collected First Team honors.
Russ, who appeared in 46 games this year, hit at a .362 batting average. He touched home 34 times and posted 50 hits to go along with 14 doubles, one triple and nine home runs. He also came up clutch with the team-best 44 RBIs and also slugged .674. He also led the Sand Shark team in walks with 24. In Sun Conference contests, Russ hit .315 in 22 games en route to collected eight extra-base hits and 24 total hits. He brought home a team-best 20 RBIs and touched home 18 times.
