HARDEEVILLE, S.C. - The Class of 2023 was honored in a pre-game ceremony on Saturday and a number of seniors contributed, but the Sand Sharks couldn't hold an early two-run lead, dropping game two of the series with Columbus State, 5-3.

How it Happened
Matthews worked out of a first inning jam after Brian Meyer made a spectacular diving catch in left.
The two teams remained scoreless until Brown laced a two-run single up the middle in the third to give USCB the lead.
Columbus State loaded the bases to open the fourth. After back-to-back sac flies to knot the game at two, Matthews blew a fastball by Connor Kirley thwarting the threat.
The Cougars had two runners reach to start the fifth, and Derek Wylie singled through the left side, taking its first lead of the afternoon. Payton MacPherson came out of the bullpen, and Columbus State tacked on another run making it a 4-2 game.
The following inning, CSU made it a three-run game, but USCB trimmed the lead to two, 5-3, in the seventh when Wesley Amrbose collected a RBI on a groundout.
CSU used two different pitchers to collect a two-run win, 5-3.
