Building blocks laid for Men's Cross Country after Furman Invite

GREENVILLE — Competing with five Division I programs, USCB men's cross country finished eighth at the Furman Cross Country Invite Saturday morning.

"Overall it was a solid first meet," said coach Tercia Harris. Our returners were able to gage how well their summer and preseason training has prepared them, and our freshmen were able to get their feet wet on a collegiate course for the first time."

Jacob Mitchell led the way for the Sand Sharks, posting a time of 20.13.96 good for 57th out the field of 94. He was followed by Jay King with a 23.14.68 and Travis Patten at 23.26.89.

Richie Morris and Eli Smith rounded out the field for Beaufort posting times of 25.02.53 and 25.04.95 respectfully.

"The weather was good, we tackled some hills on the course, and now we are aware of what we need to work on for the rest of the season."
