Boughton Era begins: Women’s Soccer releases 2025 schedule

BLUFFTON -- A new era of USCB women's soccer is set to begin in 2025 under newly appointed head coach Gary Boughton as the 2025 women's soccer schedule has officially been released. The schedule is highlighted by eight home matches at Fin Land Field and a mix of high-profile conference games and first-time matchups.

"I'm excited for the challenges our 2025 schedule brings," Boughton said. "We play some top-quality teams that should certainly prepare us for an extremely competitive PBC slate."

The season begins on Thursday, Sept. 4 when the Sand Sharks welcome Chowan to Bluffton for the first meeting between the two programs. The Hawks posted a 4-9-3 record last fall and missed the Conference Carolinas postseason tournament.

Following the home opener, USCB will embark on a two-game road swing, beginning with another inaugural matchup against Coker University in Hartsville on September 7. The Cobras finished 9-6-2 last season and reached the SAC quarterfinals before falling to Lincoln Memorial in penalty kicks. On September 11, the Sand Sharks travel to Edward Waters University, a team USCB last played during the shortened 2020 season — a series the Sand Sharks dominated with a combined 22-1 scoring margin.

Returning to Fin Land Field, USCB hosts two challenging non-conference games against Sunshine State Conference opponents. On September 14, the Sand Sharks face Palm Beach Atlantic after playing to an exciting 3-3 draw last season. Then, Rollins College visits on September 17 in a matchup originally scheduled for 2024 but canceled due to scheduling conflicts.

Peach Belt Conference play begins with a formidable test as USCB travels to face North Georgia on September 20. The Nighthawks went 13-4-3 last season and advanced to the NCAA Southeast Regional final. The Sand Sharks return home for back-to-back matches against Clayton State (Sept. 24) and Albany State (Sept. 27), two teams against whom USCB holds a combined perfect record against both opponents.

October opens with a visit to Peach Belt newcomer Middle Georgia on October 1, the first meeting between the programs since 2017. On October 4, USCB takes on Georgia College, after last year's meeting ended in scoreless draw. The Sand Sharks return home on October 8 to host Georgia Southwestern, a team USCB is unbeaten against in five previous meetings.

A three-match road swing follows, starting with Flagler College on October 11, a non-conference contest at South Carolina State on October 15, and a Peach Belt clash at Lander University on October 18.

USCB then closes the home schedule with two major Peach Belt matchups. On October 22, the Sand Sharks welcome reigning PBC Champion Columbus State, a 2024 NCAA semifinalist, before wrapping up conference play against rival USC Aiken on October 25.

The regular season concludes with a non-conference road game at Mars Hill University on October 28, marking the first meeting between the programs and serving as a final tune-up before the Peach Belt Conference Tournament.

The Sand Sharks are aiming to take a major step forward in 2025 under Coach Boughton, with a schedule built to challenge and prepare the team for postseason success.
